Artist Statement - Collage

My imagery is inspired by the natural world: how we affect and are in turn affected by our environment. It is about memory, impermanence, and the myths we create to explain our world.
I use hand made and specialty papers as my palette, just as a painter uses paint, or a printer uses ink. The papers are deconstructed, delaminated, then reconstituted, cut and layered to create a translucent, luminous surface. The finished collages have a linear crispness and dimensional quality specific to this unique medium. I find collage to be an exciting and evolving process. With each piece I discover new ways of working with the paper. All work is archivally matted and framed..
